ANDREA HORNICK: RECENT WORK
PAINTINGS ON VIEW AT JEN BEKMAN MARCH 31, 2004 - MAY 1, 2004

andrea hornick

NEW YORK, NY - Andrea Hornick's first solo exhibition of oil on panel paintings, opens at jen bekman, 6 Spring Street New York, NY on March 31, 2004 and remains on view through May 1, 2004. Opening reception Wednesday, March 31 6 - 8 PM.

Hornick's abstracted landscapes create an immediate and powerful graphic presence. The subtleties of her unique painterly interpretation of the visual and physical weight of materials and colors, reveal her process as the study of texture, time and space. Her panels are informed by the tension between nature, its representation in landscape painting and the physical experience of the digital age. She has developed a relationship to material and form that allows her to explore, as she writes, "edges where plausible and implausible gravities, spaces, times and colors co-exist."

Hornick received a BA in Studio Art from Oberlin College in 1993 and an MFA in New Genres from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1999. She works as a Freelance Museum Exhibitions Teacher at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum and The Jewish Museum, where she also teaches painting and video art. She has shown in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Austin, TX. This is her first solo exhibition in New York.
