harry zernike bio Since receiving a degree in architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1989, Harry Zernike has worked as an architect and as a furniture maker in New York City. He lived in Toronto for six years during the 90s, where he worked as a set designer and art director in film and television. Harry learned about Photography when he was a kid in Connecticut, from his father, who bought him an Instamatic; the first in a constantly rotating collection of cameras. While working with film crews, Harry started using his cameras with more concentration, for the satisfaction of making personal work. He moved back to NYC in 1999 to study for a year at the International Center of Photography. He still lives here, and now works full time in photography. In 2001, Harry won the Photo District News Photo Annual award for photojournalism. The following year, he earned the ICP/ Johnson and Johnson Traveling Fellowship. statement In traveling, and in everyday wanderings, he keeps an eye out for curiosities and incongruities: ambiguous, forgotten, overlooked, or simply comic objects, waiting to tell us their stories. |
