george horner bio San Antonio, Texas BFA University of Texas MFA University of Chicago Now lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn I am inspired by the art of Peter Saul, Robert Crumb, Pablo Picasso, Philip Guston, Curt Swan, Steve Ditko, Jack Kirby, Don Evans, Francis Bacon, Donald Baechler, Elliott Green, Marcel Duchamp, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Rene Magritte, Max Ernst, Richard Prince, Mike Kelley, Jim Shaw, Alfred Jarry, Lucio Fontana, etc... statement The current work is focused on making art where I work using only the materials available at work: pen, notepad paper, copy machine, correction fluid, etc... Most are self portraits. I use to use Silly Putty (silicon rubber) as a ground for my work. Artforum ran a two page article on the work several years ago. The fact that I could transfer images onto it, like an adolescent silk screening technique, appealed to me. The Caucasian color of the material also allowed it to by an extension of my own body...a cultural flesh. Images on the putty looked like tattoos. The works on canvas are related to the putty pieces. Images are drawn, then photo-copied and then transfered onto canvas. | ||
