CHRISTINE CALLAHAN
Callahan's color photos of scruffy backyards and equally inelegant interiors were made mostly at and around her dead grandmother's house in Fort Lauderdale. Although the show's title, "Inheritance", is ironic, Callahan did come back from Florida with some great stuff: pictures that perfectly capture the lazy mood of life on the ragged edge of a resort town and the lush carelessness of landscapes that just happen. Her eye for detail (the abandoned raft, the misplaced mop, the artificial wreath) is matched by her sense of empathy for a place where nostalgia is quickly bleached in the sun.

Callahan's photographs of seemingly innocuous details in and around the home tell stories far more fascinating than architectural portraiture should be. She leaves us wondering not who lives in these spaces now, but who just left the bed, the pool, the yard-the frame.
